Forest energy replaces fossil fuels
Forest energy is an important part of Versowood's operations. Tree felling by the Versowood Group produces about 300,000 solid cubic metres of forest residue per year. All of this is collected, and has a total energy value of about 600,000 megawatt hours (MWh). This amount would heat about 25,000 single-family homes for a year. About one-third of this amount is further processed.
The ecological forest residue obtained from the felling of logs is collected by a harvesting machine, and allowed to dry for two to five weeks (depending on the weather). It is then transferred to the roadside to be transported onward or chipped to produce forest energy. Some of the biofuel is delivered to our six of our own thermal energy plants, and more is sold to medium and large power plants operating in the Versowood wood procurement area.
